Mr. Borla is a partner at HCP. Joining the firm in 2003, his practice is focused on the prosecution and defense of civil matters involving construction defect, personal injury and products liability. He provides “first response” services to his clients who have been notified of potential catastrophic liability and property claims. In the course of these services, Mr. Borla coordinates the retention of experts, directs scene preservation and interviews witnesses in an effort to mitigate the client’s exposure and preserve subrogation opportunities. Since 2009, Mr. Borla has also focused his practice on consulting and defending employers regarding FMLA, ADA, and hiring and firing decisions. He has worked with employers to help them manage employees taking intermittent FMLA, time off accommodation requests, employee policy revisions, and employment/severance contracts. Mr. Borla prides himself in always being immediately available to his clients knowing that his clients cannot wait one or two days for advice.
Mr. Borla has tried a number of civil cases to verdict, and handled appeals in those and other cases. In 2007, Mr. Borla argued before the Ohio Supreme Court on behalf of a surrogate mother in a case that gained national attention over the validity of surrogacy contracts in Ohio.
After graduation from John Carroll University, Mr. Borla worked for eight years for Westfield Insurance Company in the claim handling and subrogation departments. As a former subrogation supervisor and former member of the National Association of Subrogation Professionals, he has particular expertise in matters relating to subrogation. He has also had considerable experience in alternative dispute resolution, having acted as both a neutral and a presenting party in claims before the American Arbitration Association.
